3. Dog: Galadriel Mirkwood 🐶
Galadriel Mirkwood is an Elf in The Lord of The Rings, it's also the name of a pet dog, specifically an Afghan hound. In 1978, Polly Matzinger, an immunologist coauthored a paper with her dog Mirkwood entitled, "In a fully H-2 incompatible chimera, T cells of donor origin can respond to minor histocompatibility antigens in association with either donor or host H-2 type" \cite{Matzinger_1978}. Matzinger was banned from publishing at the journal until the editor died and later became the head of U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). During the tenure process her co-authorship with Mirkwood was again questioned. However, as Mirkwood later recalled her peers had a sense of humor.
"They decided it wasn't really fraud. It was a real dog [a frequent lab visitor] and they said it had done no less research than some other coauthors had."-
